Client: British Vietnamese International School (BVIS)
Location: Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
Industry: Education
Project Category: Identity Management & Access Control
Technology Partners: SALTO & Hikvision
Implemented by: Netcab JSC

1. Project Overview

In an international school environment, access control systems must do more than manage entry and exit points. They also need to support identity verification, visitor management, and access authorization for different user groups.

At British Vietnamese International School (BVIS), Netcab implemented a solution combining Hikvision Turnstiles with SALTO Identity Management (IDM), connecting visitor registration, identity verification, and access authorization with physical access control systems.

This project marks the first SALTO Identity Management deployment in Vietnam carried out by Netcab, demonstrating the company’s system integration capabilities in combining identity management platforms with physical access control devices.

The solution is designed to support the visitor management process, from information registration and identity verification to access at controlled entry points.

2. Project Requirements

At BVIS, the access management process needs to accommodate different operational scenarios, ranging from visitors with pre-arranged appointments to those registering directly at the school.

In addition to physical access control, the system must support the security team in verifying visitor identities and managing access permissions through a unified process.

The key project requirements include:

  • Physical Access Control: Implement turnstile systems to control entry and exit at designated access points.
  • Identity Verification: Support visitor information verification before access is granted.
  • Visitor Registration: Support both pre-registration and on-site registration.
  • Access Authorization: Link verified identity information to the access authorization process.
  • System Integration: Integrate SALTO Identity Management with the Hikvision Turnstile system.
  • Operational Workflow: Establish a registration, verification, and access control process aligned with the school’s operational requirements.

The solution must ensure effective coordination between on-site devices and management software, enabling a structured visitor reception process while maintaining the necessary security checks.

3. Solution & Scope of Work

To meet BVIS’s requirements, Netcab delivered the system across three main areas: Hikvision Turnstile installation, SALTO Identity Management setup and configuration, and the integration of both solutions into a unified operational workflow.

3.1. Hikvision Turnstile Installation

As the first phase, Netcab installed the Hikvision Turnstile system in the designated areas of the school.

The turnstiles serve as the physical access control layer, regulating passage through designated entry points based on access permissions validated by the system.

The scope of work includes:

  • Installation of the Hikvision Turnstile system.
  • Device setup and connectivity with the access control infrastructure.
  • Configuration of turnstile operational functions.
  • Testing of card authentication and turnstile response.
Hikvision Turnstiles installed by Netcab at BVIS, providing the physical access control layer for integration with SALTO IDM.

The turnstile system establishes the physical hardware foundation for Netcab to proceed with the implementation and integration of the SALTO IDM identity management solution.

3.2. SALTO Identity Management Configuration

Following the deployment of the turnstile system, Netcab proceeded with the setup and configuration of SALTO Identity Management (IDM) to support identity management and visitor registration processes.

Rather than relying solely on card authentication at the entrance, SALTO IDM introduces an additional process for managing visitor information and verifying identities before access is granted.

At BVIS, the system was configured to support two primary registration methods.

Pre-registration

For visitors with pre-arranged appointments, the process follows these steps:

Invitation → Pre-registration → Identity Verification → Access Authorization → Card Issuance → Authorized Entry

The process includes:

  • Invitation: The responsible department sends a registration invitation to the visitor.
The responsible department sends a registration invitation to the visitor through the SALTO IDM system, providing the necessary information to initiate the registration process before their arrival at the school.
  • Pre-registration: Visitors complete their registration information before arriving at the school.
Visitors access the link provided in the email and complete their registration information before their scheduled visit, helping streamline the visitor reception process at the school.
  • Identity Verification: Security personnel check and verify the visitor’s information upon arrival.
  • Access Authorization: Once verification is complete, the visitor is issued an access card and granted the appropriate access permissions.
  • Authorized Entry: The visitor uses the issued card at the Hikvision Turnstile to gain access.

This method allows visitor information to be prepared in advance, reducing registration procedures at the reception area.

On-site Registration

For visitors who have not registered in advance, SALTO IDM supports on-site registration directly at the school.

Visitors enter their information through the registration interface on a mobile device. Once the registration is completed, security personnel review and verify the information before granting access permissions.

Visitors then use their issued access cards to pass through the turnstile.

Supporting both pre-registration and on-site registration enables BVIS to handle different visitor reception scenarios flexibly while maintaining an identity verification process before access is granted.

On-site Registration at BVIS using SALTO IDM, allowing visitors to register their information before verification and access through the Hikvision turnstile.

3.3. SALTO IDM & Hikvision Turnstile Integration

One of the key technical components of the project was the integration of SALTO Identity Management with the Hikvision Turnstile system.

In this configuration, SALTO IDM supports visitor registration, identity verification, and access authorization workflows, while the Hikvision Turnstiles provide physical access control at designated entry and exit points.

Netcab configured and coordinated the system components to connect identity management processes with real-world access control operations.

Integrated Access Control Workflow

Visitor Registration → Identity Verification → Access Authorization → Card Authentication → Authorized Entry

Through this integration, visitor management extends beyond card authentication at the entrance to become a structured, step-by-step process for managing identities and access permissions.

3.4. Testing & Commissioning

After completing the hardware installation and software configuration, Netcab conducted testing and commissioning in accordance with BVIS’s operational workflows.

The testing activities focused on:

  • Pre-registration and on-site registration processes.
  • Visitor information submission and identity verification.
  • Access authorization following successful verification.
  • Card authentication at the Hikvision Turnstiles.
  • Coordination between SALTO IDM and the access control system.

The testing process aimed to ensure that all deployed components operated in accordance with the school’s operational and access control requirements before the system was put into service.

4. Project Benefits

The integration of SALTO Identity Management with Hikvision Turnstiles enables BVIS to establish a structured visitor management process, covering registration, identity verification, and physical access control.

Identity Management Linked to Access Authorization

Visitor registration and verification information is incorporated into the access authorization process, ensuring that access management goes beyond relying solely on authentication credentials at the entrance.

Streamlined Visitor Registration

Pre-registration allows visitors to submit their information before arriving at the school, reducing registration tasks at the reception area and helping security personnel process visitor information more efficiently.

Flexible Registration Methods

The system supports both pre-registration and on-site registration, accommodating different visitor reception scenarios at the school.

Enhanced Physical Access Control

The Hikvision Turnstiles work in conjunction with identity verification and access authorization processes to control passage through designated access points.

Standardized Visitor Management Workflow

Registration, verification, authorization, and access procedures are organized into a unified workflow, supporting the school’s security management operations.
